When moving into a new rental, you typically have to meet up with your property manager for an walkthrough inspection to document the property’s condition before you settle in. You may think it’s a hassle, but the best way for a tenant to protect their move-in deposit is to thoroughly and accurately document move-in conditions so that you won’t be charged for any preexisting issues upon move-out.
With the Tenant Move In app, your new property manager can invite you to complete own move-in inspections. You will receive a welcome email including your username, password, and link to download the mobile app, Tenant Move In.
Once it’s installed on your mobile device, simply sign in with your username and password to begin a full move-in inspection. On many devices, you simply need to tap where indicated in the emailed invitation to Log in, accept one or more prompts to open a browser or app store page, install the app, and you’ll be signed in automatically.
The template may vary depending on your property manager’s preferences, so be sure to follow the instructions. Most likely, the inspection template will include all areas (rooms, yards, and systems) present on your property. You can tap to open each area and see the details within it. You can mark each detail (e.g., sink) in each area (e.g., kitchen) of the home as new (N), satisfactory (S) or damaged (D), and can even indicate if an action (such as a repair) needs to be taken (!). (Available conditions may differ, based on your property manager’s preferences).
You can tap on any black camera icon to take a picture, either of a general area or a specific detail.
You can tap on any detail name to add a comment.
Once you have completely filled out the template, tap at lower right to proceed, review and sign on the next screen, then Submit the inspection.
Hints:
- A red camera icon indicates a photo is required, so be sure to tap there to take one.
- A red detail name indicates a comment is required, so be sure to tap there to add one.
- Be sure you have an active internet connection on your device when submitting the inspection so that it can upload. A number at the top of the screen indicates items left to upload after submission. Don’t close the app until it has reached 0!
When the time comes for you to move out, your property manager will compare your move-in inspection to the current condition of the property and assess any damages that may have occurred during your tenancy. Protect yourself by performing a thorough move-in inspection!
