The zTenant custom app builder empowers you to mobilize your existing resources in your very own custom app for tenants, property owners, prospective buyers, or whomever you see fit. The process is simple, reliable, and no coding is required. Watch the video below, or refer to the step-by-step instructions and build an app for your business in minutes.
Building Your App
Go to Settings > Admin Settings, and, under Tenant Settings, click on zTenant App Builder.
Add your company name: If you have not previously entered your company name elsewhere in zInspector, simply enter it in the Company field.
Add your logo: If you have not previously uploaded a zInspector logo to display on your inspection reports, you can click Customize Logo and add your logo using the dropzone in the new tab then return to the Tenant App Builder tab.
Choose a custom url: You can specify a URL for the app download link that identifies the app with your company. Simply replace the auto-generated URL with your company name, an abbreviation of your company name, or something along those lines. For example: If your company is named Great Property Management Company, you might chose greatpm for your custom URL. The app download link on your website would consequently look like this: https://app.zinspector.com/company/greatpm
Note: The URL must be unique and can only contain letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9), hyphens (-) and underscores (_): you’ll be prompted to change yours if the entered URL has already been taken by another zInspector account or if it contains unsupported characters.
Add buttons (menu items): Click +New Button to add a button.
Customize buttons: Click on a button row to highlight it, then double-click on any button element to edit it.
- Icon: Specify an appropriate icon for the button (such as Phone)
- Text: Give the button a name (such as Call Us)
- Color: Designate the button as primary (dark color, more emphasis) or secondary (light color, less emphasis).
- Action: Specify an action type for the button (such as Phone).
- Link: Specify the existing resource to which you are linking the button (such as your front desk phone number).
Webview or Browser action? A Webview action will open the resource link within the app. A Browser action will open the resource link in a separate browser. For the most seamless experience, we recommend the Webview action for web-based resources whenever possible, webview may not be supported for all resources. If you find that a webview action is not opening a button resource properly when you test it, switch that button to a Browser action right away.
Delete buttons: Click the delete (trashcan icon) for the corresponding button.
Reorder buttons: Click, hold and drag on the left side of any button row (dotted grid icon) to reorder it on the screen.
Choose a color palette: Click the Change Theme Color (palette icon) button at upper right and select a theme that best suits your company and brand.
Customize the home message: Delete, add, or edit the Home Message as you see fit, with a friendly greeting, words of gratitude, seasonal message, or an important update.
App Builder Preview
Note that the app preview (at right) will update as you build the app, and it’s interactive. You can reorder, edit, and delete existing buttons and change your home message by clicking, dragging, etc. within the preview directly. Keep in mind that the actual app functionality (linking to your resources, etc.) cannot be previewed on this page.
Launching Your App
When you are ready to launch your app, checkmark the Enable Company Homepage at the top of the page.
Testing Your App
You can see your custom app in action once you launch and download it. Be sure to test your app thoroughly when you first launch it and after applying any updates to make sure you’ve customized and linked everything properly. To view your most recent updates in real time, tap the sync (cycling arrows) button at upper right on the app screen after making any changes on the Tenant App Builder page.
Updating Your App
Once the app is launched, any updates or changes you make to your app will be visible to your users right away, meaning the next time they open the app or the next time it syncs.
Publishing Your App Download Link
If you would like your tenants, customers, or other target audience to be able to download the app and access its resources any time, simply click the Copy Link button (under the Public Link) and add it to your website.
Tenant-Completed Inspections & zTenant
When you invite tenants to perform their own inspections, their emailed invitations will prompt them to download your custom app onto their iOS or Android device, and the inspection template will open for them in your custom app automatically. Once they have completed the inspection, they’ll be able to continue accessing available resources you’ve provided within the app, until their next inspection invitation.
Instructions — Invite a Tenant to Perform an Inspection

Note: zTenant is available on select zInspector plans. A trial version of the zTenant app is available on other plans, but only allows the addition of two buttons (menu items).
