Important Tenant App Updates
Most tenants don’t want to be weighed down by technology on the day of an inspection, so we are striving to make it as simple and efficient as possible while allowing them collect all the data you need.
This month, we’re releasing another wave of app updates and improvements to make it easier for you and your tenants to perform inspections. Here is what’s new:
➯ Simplified Camera Screen:
The new simplified camera screen was developed based on our customer’s feedback.
If you wish to enable this feature on your Tenant Move-In or Tenant Inspection templates, insert the field shown below into the body of the template:
Z:[[Instruction | SIMPLE_CAMERA | [collapsed] ]]
Don’t forget to save and publish!
Traditionally, zInspector aims to bring you the best native camera experience with the most helpful tools to take pictures and videos when using the app.
However, in some specific cases, it is preferred to enable a simplified stripped down version of the camera for your tenants to use.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the regular screen and this new option:
If you wish to enable this feature on your Tenant Move-In or Tenant Inspection templates, insert the field shown below into the body of the template:

➯ Tenants have the ability to capture video
To enable this feature on your Tenant Move-In or Tenant Inspection templates, insert the field shown below into the body of the template:
Z:[[Instruction | VIDEO_ENABLED | [Yes] ]]
➯ Tenants can now add area descriptions
What are Area Descriptions? Why do they matter?
Area descriptions are needed to make them unique and easy to identify for any inspector, tenant, owner, or vendor. Multiples of a given room type (Bedroom or Bathroom) should always have a clear Area Description. Examples:
- Bedroom 1 can be described as “Master Bedroom – Northwest”
- Bathroom 1 can be described as “Master Bath – en suite”
- Bedroom 2 can be described as “Guest Bedroom – Southwest”
- Bathroom 2 can be described as “Guest Bathroom – off Hallway”
Even room types that could be confused with each other (Living Room or Family Room) might benefit from an Area Description. Unique, unambiguous rooms (Kitchen, Laundry Room) do not require an Area Description—except in rare cases when a property has more than one.
➯ You can now embed a video on the template or override the default instructional video
We would like to give you full control over the way your tenants experience and go about their inspections. You can now add your own instructional video into the Tenant Move-In or Tenant Inspection templates, or even disable it altogether.
In order to do this, insert the fields shown below into the body of the template:
Z:[[Instruction | CONDITION_TABLE_VIDEO | [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6PneSRg4oc&t=2s] ]]
* make sure to replace the Youtube link with your own.

Don’t forget to save and publish!
➯ Proposed new default instructions
To add new instruction on your Tenant Move-In or Tenant Inspection templates, insert the fields shown below into the body of the template:
Z:[[Instruction | ICON_TEXT | [info-with-circle; Entypo; Instructions; info; bold] ]]Z:[[Instruction | MULTI_TEXT | [normal; Move through each area marking items as:; S = Satisfactory.; D = Existing Damage.; ! = Needs attention.] ]]
Z:[[Instruction | MULTI_TEXT | [normal; Take lots of pictures to protect yourself; Please take at least an overview picture of each room and anything marked as Existing Damage (D) or Needs Attention (!)] ]]
Z:[[Instruction | MULTI_TEXT | [normal; For maintenance requests, please also contact your property manager directly in addition to completing this inspection.] ]]
Remember, you can always customize the text in the instructions by double tapping on the field and typing in your own.
