zInspector now includes the ability to scan appliance, material, and fixture labels and tags to auto-recognize, capture, and store the important info with no hassle as a zData entry.
On the zInspector 3 app, within any zData screen, during an inspection or via the Edit Areas menu, tap the Scan icon.
Scanning Text (Tag or Label)
Text Scan mode will open by default.
Line up the tag, label, or desired text within the rectangular guides, and tap the Text Scan button (at bottom center) to begin the scan.
All recognized text will appear in the text box. Double-tap to select a portion of text and drag to expand the selection as needed then tap Copy to automatically paste the selection into the zData field. Repeat as desired to add additional text portions to the zData field.
Tap Save to save the current zData entry, in addition to a photo of the scanned text with a comment containing all captured text, for future reference.
Tap the Scan button again to retry the scan (if, for example, text recognition was poor, you can try improving light conditions).
Tap Cancel to return to the previous screen; the scan, reference photo, and any updates to zData will not be saved.
Scanning a Barcode or QR code
From the main scanning screen, tap the Barcode Scan button (at bottom right), line up the barcode or QR code within the square guides. The barcode scanner works automatically when a barcode or QR code is recognized within the guides.
Tip: If the barcode isn’t scanning automatically, you may need to improve lighting conditions. You can turn on the device flashlight by tapping the conveniently located flashlight icon on the barcode capture screen.
Any recognized text, associated weblink, or other content will appear in the text box.
Double-tap to select a portion of the content and drag to expand the selection as needed then tap Copy to automatically paste the selection into the zData field.
Repeat as desired to add additional content portions to the zData field.
Tap Save to save the current zData entry.
Tap Cancel to return to the previous screen; the recognized content and any copy/pasted updates to zData will not be saved.
