In zInspector 3, the default configuration requires a comment and a photo if you mark something as D (Damaged) and a photo if you mark something as ! (an Action Item).
Where a Comment or Photo is required, the corresponding icon will turn red (illustrated below) and you will be unable to submit your inspection until all required documentation is provided.
If this doesn’t work for you, no problem. It is actually quite easy to change your template to modify this requirement. Detailed instructions follow.
Create and Edit a New Draft of an Existing Inspection Template
On the zInspector website, go to Properties and select Documents.
Click on Document Templates.
In the Active Templates list, find the inspection template you wish to change.
Click on the New Draft (drafting compass) icon for that template.
If you are editing this template for the first time, be sure to delete this text from the document body: Z:[[System | [SYSTEM_DOCUMENT]]]
Now, see this section of the template:
Z:[[Inspection Table | Move-In Conditions | [N=New,E=Excellent;S=Satisfactory,SC=Satisfactory and Clean,F=Fair,P=Poor;D=Damaged,DN=Damaged and Needs Attention,DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;picture;both;] ]]
The last two words are crucial: “picture;both;”
The word entered in the first space (where it says “picture”) specifies what will be required for any detail designated as an Action item (!). In this case, a photo will be required.
The word entered in the second space (where it says “both”) specifies what will be required for any detail designated as Damaged (D). In this case, both a photo and a comment will be required.
To disable both Photo and Comment requirements, change the condition table definition to read as follows by replacing “picture;both;” with “none;none;” as shown:
Z:[[Inspection Table | Move-In Conditions | [N=New,E=Excellent;S=Satisfactory,SC=Satisfactory and Clean,F=Fair,P=Poor;D=Damaged,DN=Damaged and Needs Attention,DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;none;none;] ]]
When done, click Publish.
Note: Any time you wish to use a recently published template on the app, make sure to tap the Sync (green circular arrows) button to grab any recent website changes before starting the corresponding inspection on the app.
Important: In-progress inspections are not affected by template changes and should be completed based on their original requirements.
Other Possible Documentation Requirements
Besides the default requirement and removing all requirements, there are other options when it comes to required documentation of D and ! items. When placed in either space, the following words give a specific result in the published template:
- both: a photo and a comment are required.
- picture: a photo is required
- comment: a comment is required
- none: neither a photo or comment is required
Examples:
…DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;picture;both;] ]]
- A photo is required for any detail marked as an action item (!).
- A photo and a comment are required for any detail marked as damaged (D).
…DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;both;picture;] ]]
- A photo and a comment are required for any detail marked as an action item (!)
- A photo is required for any detail marked as damaged (D).
…DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;picture;comment;] ]]
- A photo is required for a detail marked as an action item (!).
- A comment is required for a detail marked as damaged (D).
…DR=Damaged and Needs Re-Hab;all;none;none;] ]]
- No photo or comment is required for any detail marked as an action item (!).
- No photo or comment is required for any detail marked as damaged (D).
