5.6 Mobile App Permissions

182 views 1 min , 18 sec read 0

As with many mobile apps, you should enable certain permissions to let zInspector 3 perform correctly. Without permissions enabled, you will be unable to take geo-tagged photos, videos with sound, and (on iOS 14 or above) 360 photo captures. If you find you are unable to perform these basic zInspector 3 functions, please review your device’s permissions settings.

Note: This article covers the standardized permissions for zInspector 3 (version 3.1.15) on iOS 14 (released September 2020). Android permission setting locations and availability, while generally comparable, may vary.

Required & Recommended zInspector 3 Permissions

Location Services

In order to allow zInspector to geo-tag your photos and videos with an unalterable location stamp (important for foolproof documentation of property conditions and helpful in legal proceedings) you must select Allow While Using App. This permissions prompt appears after you open zInspector 3 for the first time and before you log in.

Notifications

Whether you allow zInspector 3 to send you notifications is entirely optional. This permissions prompt appears after you open zInspector 3 for the first time and before you log in.

Camera

In order to take photos and videos, you must give zInspector 3 access to your device’s camera. This permissions prompt appears the first time you open tap the app’s photo or video button.

Microphone

In order to enable video recording with sound you must give zInspector 3 access to your device’s microphone. Sound recordings can be helpful to document things like noisy appliances, rattling fans, and other repair needs and maintenance requests. This permissions prompt appears the first time you open tap the app’s photo or video button.

Local Network

Starting with iOS 14, Apple introduced a Local Network setting. When you first attempt to take a 360 photo capture, you will be prompted to allow Local Network connections. To use a 360 camera with zInspector 3 in iOS 14 and above, you must tap OK.

Permissions Menu in Device Settings

To review your permissions settings for zInspector 3 any time, to double-check or troubleshoot an issue, you can go to Settings > zInspector 3 on your iOS device.

Note for Android Device Users: Android menu layouts vary by device. One example: on the Samsung LG v20, go to Tools > Settings > General > Apps & notifications > App info > zInspector 3 then go to App notifications or Permissions as needed to review your current app permissions and notification settings.
